Roughcut Herbals & Medicinals is a small-batch apothecary rooted in traditional herbal practice and modern evidence-based formulations, and a whole bunch of intuition. Every possible herb, plant, flower & root is grown, harvested, and infused by hand on the same land that inspires Ranch Candy — ensuring purity, potency, and traceability from soil to skin. I aim to be extremely mindful when I am harvesting my plants and give deep gratitude always for the nourishment they provide me. I make my own fertilizer/nutritional supplements for the gardens with plant matter that is already growing and for the most part I let the weeds do what they want and acknowledge the pollinators and try to let the ecosystem of my property flourish how it wants too.
When I do have to outsource ingredients, I put a lot of thought into what it is, where it is coming from, and how it will energetically affect the rest of the infusion it might be added to.
These details matter. This sets me apart.
Where did the name Roughcut come from? Well, one day I was sitting in the apothecary and I was blending a medicinal tea and was tearing apart flowers, roots, and chopping up oats that I had grown. I was also drinking this specific tea while packaging up the orders, and suddenly realized, “wow,” I feel so great and so calm. I decided to take a break from blending and went outside to see what the horses were doing, and it was a perfect morning, the sunshine was perfect, there was a gentle fall breeze, and I stood looking around my property at the fencing projects I had accomplished all by myself. I live on the top of a hill and it is quite windy, and I have roughcut lumber windfence everywhere, and it just hit me! My teas are ROUGHCUT, just like my lumber, and just perfectly imperfect, just like me!
With the intent to specialize in herbal infusions, plant-based ingredients, and natural crafts made through slow extraction methods that preserve the plant’s full therapeutic profile. I have set out to try and avoid synthetic additives, with no mass production activities.
